Menlo Fields

About us

Menlo Fields began with a small gamble – just a few rows of shallots planted in the cool soils of Scottsdale, Tasmania, in the early 2000s.

Back then, it was an experiment. We didn’t know if they’d take to our climate, but we were willing to put in the work to find out.

That first planting taught us a lot. Shallots aren’t a crop you rush – they demand patience, precision, and care at every stage. Over the years, we refined how we grew them: perfecting spacing, timing, irrigation, and the art of getting those skins smooth and the flavour full.

In 2005, we took our first shallots to market under the Newtile brand. By 2013, demand had grown so much that we rebranded to Menlo Fields, specialising entirely in shallots. Today, what began as a trial crop has grown into acres upon acres of red, gold, and banana shallots, shipped across the country.

Our shallots are grown the hard way – planted, nurtured, and harvested with care. From the first shoot breaking through the soil to the final box packed and sent, every step is done with the goal of producing the best possible product.

Harrowing Paddock

For us, shallots aren’t just something we grow. They’re what we’ve built our name on. Every box is the result of years of refinement, persistence, and pride – and we’re just getting started.

At Menlo Fields, we focus on doing things well. Every shallot is grown with experience, graded and packed by hand, and delivered with care to wholesalers, chefs and retailers across Australia. Whether you're looking for red, gold or long eschallion shallots, we're proud to offer a product that reflects our land, our standards, and our story.

Our farm, based in the cool-climate region of North East Tasmania, benefits from a long growing season, fresh air, pure water and rich soils - the ideal conditions for producing high-quality, consistent shallots for wholesale markets, hcefs and retailers across Australia. These are natural advantages you can't manufacture - they come down to where we grow, and how we grow. That's why we say:
